Juvenile Cataracts: an unfortunate problem
Hi, I'm Logan! I am a 1 year old Malamute/Husky mix dog who came from a Michigan breeder and I've travelled all the way to Alaska. I love the weather here, and I have the most wonderful family. Unfortunately, I also just found out I have a medical condition called Juvenile Cataracts. This form of cataracts is a ressesive gene that was passed down to me from one of my parents or grandparents. No one knows exactly. I started to get a squinty eye, and my owners thought that I had an eye infection. After a round of eye drops, they noticed one of my eyes was starting to get cloudy.
The vet says that I have cataracts in both eyes. We don't know yet how fast they are progressing, but he estimated that I would go completely blind in a few years. There is surgery available for my cataracts, but it has to be done by special doggy eye doctors, and there aren't any up here in Alaska. The estimated cost for my surgery is around $5,000 plus the cost of flying me out of Alaska and to a specialist who can do the surgery. My owners are determined to make it happen, but they have no idea how they are going to pay for it. I trust them to take care of me though, so I'm not worried. I just hope I won't have to be away from them too long for surgery.
If you know anyone would like to donate towards my surgery costs, I'd be eternally greatful!
